Genius Headband

So cute picture of the headband I made for Noorah and me out of my stash of acrylic turquoise stash I had laying around. It was really simple to make and stretchy. The pattern can be found here.

Mom's Beachy Bag

So wow I actually crocheted something as of late. A bag of which I'd really like to put a liner in. I just haven't done it yet. Going to use a lime green inside and hopefully make a few pockets in the lining as well as a zippered pouch hopefully. I decided on this project because despite being a huge butterball of a turkey right now ready serve at any second... I really felt as though I needed to thank my mom for the huge sacrifice of a gift she will be bestowing upon us next month by taking a 3 week vacation lol so to speak at my house with a crying baby and a 2 year old toddler. She's awesome what can I say. Here's a link to my ravelry and the pattern on lionsbrand.com I ended up using 6 skeins of kitchen cotton. Apparently they are a bit small only 99yds each.

Soup ala recipe

So I made some delicious soup last night for our friends fasting for Ramadan. It was so involved... Lol I thought omg do people really make this with this many ingredients and steps?!   Anyway it was well worth it because the end result was delicious! Here's the address for the recipe.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5FGXkegirU

End result was amazingly flavorful I almost couldn't stop to eat anything else.
That was just the soup! Lol.  We also had other dishes, a meatball ala Arab style. It was made with peppers, onions, and tomatoes over kefta (spiced) ground beef rolled into balls; shrimp with peppers and cumin garlic butter sauce; baked chicken and peppers w potatoes and tomatoes; salad with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, avocado, and cranberries with an olive oil, lemon and mint dressing; babaganoosh (eggplant dip with cilantro and parsley, sesame seed paste and crushed pecans); fava beans w garlic, avocado, olive oil and lemon juice; side plate of Moroccan black and pimento stuffed green olives with jalapeƱo cheese.  I also made peppered rice to put under the different dishes.  It was a feast lol.  :) had a great time with friends and stayed up fairly late.

Trickles of crafty...

I just realized I didn't post my most crafty McGeiver craft to date. I did so on my facebook but neglected to do so here. I know it doesn't matter much but since I am blogging about crafts n such here I might as well add it here since I've not done much else but raise a baby this past year. Which mind you is very time consuming indeed. My contributions before I popped out my Noorah are as follows...

Finished MacGyver shelves for the SAT,VCR,and DVD (two cooling cookie racks,4ceiling hooks,4 bicycle safety wires and a little imagination) lol Yes sad that I've not really accomplished much more than a few trinkets besides this. A little flower for Noorah's head and a bunny hat I made for her which turned out pretty cute if I do say so myself.

Say hello to my little friend!

I decided to buy this 4 dollar humongous scarf thinking it was just too pretty to pass up. When I got it home I couldn't think of anything to put with it.  Plus it was getting too hot to wear it around my neck in this weather. So there it sat on my dresser for a few days. Till this morning while deciding on what to wear and fancying my newly bought scarf, an epiphany came to me, and I eagerly tried to tuck and wrap myself a new blouse. This is what I came up with :). I now need a long necklace and some earrings to complete the look. :D I'll do a tutorial for the wrap if for nothing else to remind myself how I did it lol.  It's so easy and also very versatile. :) I've nicknamed this the scarfouse lol.  My new friend that I shall be wearing very soon :)
Items needed: 1 large scarf mine was 72" x 44" (or enough to go around your hips once with the shortest side) 3 safety pins or hair pins I used 2 hair pins and a tuck... that could have really used a safety pin so you decide but I didn't want to put any holes in my scarf so I didn't. 1 hair clip or necklace clasp (the ones in the 80's we used to hold a bunch of beaded necklaces together, remember those? lol)Or you can use one of those metal clips for pony tails. With a pretty hair clip the possibilities are endless. Old pearl necklace that's broken? make a clip with it. :D
Anyway moving on, 1 smaller scarf in either solid or a coordinating color that you can roll into a belt across your hips. This is essential to the look. Mine was 38 x 38.
1 tank top in a color ie black, white, tan, ecru, that you don't mind someone seeing the shoulder of. (preferably one that will match with your scarf and outfit that has more bra strap coverage so you can pin inconspicuously) Accessories! Long necklaces, bracelets and dangle earrings are perfect. Try several variations till you find the one you like best. With print go more solid chain necklaces ... with solid scarves go beads. My case I didn't have gold solid so I went with beaded so it looks a little busy I think. Anyhow more solid like my earrings would have be nice too. First stand in front of a mirror so you can see your hips and torso clearly. Wearing the tank top color of your choice, hold the scarf by one of the shortest ends. Make sure when you lay it out, if it has a wrong and right side, you see the wrong side up. Take one end of the scarf starting at one side of the hip and wrap around your hips hold and tie the belt around your waist to hold it in place. You will have the excess material above the belt and draped onto the floor.
Pin both the front and back sides under the arm here. Safety pin works best.
All exess material will go under the arm and up over the opposite shoulder. Like so :).
Then pull through the belt and adjust.
I suggest putting a pin here.
Place hair pin or safety pin here. Tuck it then place a hair pin or safety pin. Leave a little out to decorate the tuck.
Like this. :)On the shoulder with the scarf, put a clasp of some sort. A pretty pin or hair clip. To hold it on top of your shoulder.  Then accessorize! Hope you like it!

Baby Time :)

From the middle baby blanket was started sometime in the beginning of this month. I can't tell you how nice it is to get back into crocheting. My hobby of choice. Though I'm not really and I shall say this because I know it to be true... very good at following directions...and may be partially due to being incredibly impatient... projects like this are great cause they are simple and need much less thinking... so I can watch or listen to something while I crochet. I also can say this about my crochet and knitting ... I suck! lol... no seriously my gauge is all out of wack and I constantly make mistakes and keep going ... which is why it is difficult for me to make anything wearable other than scarves and such. I did however make ... a while back, a nice halter for dancing in... but I never really used it. I just made it and danced in it for pictures and for practicing dance routines in at home. So that said, if I can some day improve either my patience or attention span for such things I will be in a better place. So the reason for my delay and non updatingness is because I've gotten recently married ... hehe ok so it's not really a reason. I just really haven't done any crocheting or knitting since my last blog... other than another pouch to carry stuff in... but really it's been a pretty dry season for me with the craftiness. Now that baby Noorah is on her way in March ... I've a new resolution to start making at least one thing a month. This way... hopefully I'll actually make some things she can wear by the time she's born. Here I've started my first of hopefully many projects for the year 2012.
